Access Statement For Ouse Bridge House
Introduction
We are a small family run establishment in an Edwardian building overlooking
Bassenthwaite Lake. We have 11 bedrooms over 3 floors and aim to cater
for the needs of all visitors to the Ouse Bridge.
The following is a summary of our provision and if you have any specific
questions please fell free to call us and we will endeavor to help.
Pre-Arrival
•
We can be contacted by telephone, email, post or fax.
•
We have a website through which enquiries can be made and a secure
section where deposits can be paid
•
A letter of confirmation is sent with all bookings along with a brochure,
map and menu. These can be provided in large print by prior arrangement
•
Guests are encouraged to view our website where all our facilities
are explained in detail.
•
The main train station is 40 minutes away by car and can be reached
by bus taking approximately 1 .5 hours.
•
The bus stop is approximately 200 metres away from our front gates
•
There are a number of taxi companies in the area and we can make a
booking for you if required
•
We are approximately 6 miles from the towns of Keswick and Cockermouth
and there are buses to both running every 2 hours.
•
The nearest shop-mobility scheme is in Penrith and there are plans
for one in Workington
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
•
We have a large sign at the entrance to the property with our phone
number and website displayed prominently
• There are no marked parking bays but plenty of room for all cars.
Guests can be dropped off right next to the entrance
•
The car park is on a small slope and the surface is gravel
•
We can assist guests with luggage
Main Entrance & Reception
•
There are three steps of 5cm, 10cm and 15 cm height to reach the porch
and a step of 18cm to the front door
•
The front door is open from 4pm to 10.30pm
•
The front door is 84cm wide leading into an inner porch with another
door which is 86 cm wide
•
The distance from the front door to the reception desk is 6 metres.
The reception desk is 1 metre high
•
The inside porch has a short pile carpet and the main entrance hall
has a wooden floor thoughout
Public Areas - General (Internal)
•
The downstairs hallway is 135cm wide at its narrowest point
•
The upstairs landings are 85cm wide at their narrowest point
•
All hallways and landings have a good colour contrast and are well
lit
•
The stairs and upstairs landings have a floor covering of short pile
carpet
•
The dining room, lounge/bar and one guest room are located on the ground
floor
•
There are 16 stairs to the first floor where 6 guest rooms are located.
•
There are a further 15 stairs up to the 4 guest bedrooms located on
the second floor.
•
The stairs are 17cm high, 27 cm deep and 100 cm wide. There is a wooden
handrail on the left hand side.
•
There is no lift but we are happy to provide assistance with luggage
Public Areas - WC
•
9 bedrooms are en-suite, including the ground floor room and the remaining
two each have a private bathroom
•
There is a public toilet located at the top of the stairs to the first
floor
Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Lounges, Take Away & Cafe
•
Breakfast and Dinner are served in the dining room, which is located
on the ground floor. There are no steps and the door is 75cm wide
•
Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request.
•
Tables have under space of 73 cm high and are either 122cm or 70cm
wide
•
Dinner is waitress service and hot food at breakfast is also by waitress
service. There is a buffet for continental items at breakfast, however
waitress service can be provided if required
•
Menus and wine lists can be provided in large print by prior arrangement
•
The residents bar and lounge is also on the ground floor. The door
is 75cm wide and there is a mix of easy chairs and hard backed chairs.

There are wooden garden tables and chairs located outside the front
of the hotel. Furniture is not fixed and can be moved on request.

•
There are 11 bedrooms. One is on the ground floor, 6 on the first floor
and 4 on the second floor.

9 rooms are en-suite, including the one on the ground floor. Some have
baths and showers and some baths or showers only.

2 rooms have their own private bathrooms opposite and with baths in
both.
•
All rooms have short pile carpet, good contrast in decor, colour TV
with remote control and teletext and two easy chairs.

Some furniture can be moved on request
•
The ground floor bedroom has a door width of 70cm. The room has can
be either twin beds or a double bed.
•
Room information can be provided in large print by prior arrangement
•
There are smoke detectors and loud audible fire alarms in all guest
rooms
•
All rooms have a kettle and tea and coffee making facilities
•
Most bedding is non -feather and we can ensure that no feather pillows
or duvets are used if requested
•
A mini fridge can be provided for rooms if required and by prior arrangement

The ground floor room is en-suite with a walk-in power shower
•
The shower is 1 metre wide and has small step up of 10 cm
•
The toilet is 48 cam high

The basin is 86 cm high with a clear underspace

The room is well lit and has a wooden floor, with good contrast of
floors, walls, fixtures and fittings
•
Other en-suite bathrooms have either walk in showers only, bath with
shower attachment on the taps or a bath with shower over the top.

We have tables and chairs outside the front of the hotel for guests

Additional Information
•
We have smoke detectors and a loud fire alarm in all rooms, which will
sound continuously in an emergency. If you require more assistance
for evacuating please notify us on arrival and we will ensure you are
evacuated safely

There is a map on the back of each bedroom door explaining how to evacuate
the building if needs be. This can be made available in large print
by prior arrangement

We are happy to take delivery of hired equipment
•
We are a completely non-smoking building
•
We do play background music in the bar and dinning room
•
There is clear directional signage to all rooms
•
We have a mini fridge available for storing medication/ food in rooms
and can put larger items in our main fridges on requests ( not 24 hour
access)

We do not accept pets
•
There is some mobile phone reception from the hotel for 02 and Vodafone
but it is poor for Orange, T-Mobile or Virgin Mobile

All rooms are fitted with fire doors to create a fire corridor in the
event of fire.

Future Plans
•
We are planning to put a handrail in the shower of the ground floor bedroom,
which is due for completion in winter 2007/08
